Nothing says relaxation quite like lazy days on the beach and leisurely strolls through charming coastal towns. From soaking up the sun to discovering hidden gems, the perfect seaside getaway awaits.
The Sound View is a hotel located on a 14-acre waterfront property in historic Greenport, Long Island. Facing west provides incredible nightly sunsets and since It is the only hotel and restaurant on the Sound on the entire North Fork it offers guests a unique opportunity to experience the sea. This retreat is family-friendly and provides various activities for guests, including private sailing lessons, farm tours with the chef, waterside art and yoga classes, nightly classic beach fires with smores, and more. Think Sonoma of the North East paired with laid-back beach vibes and warm service. Need we mention the property is surrounded by vineyards—about 50 in total—and has a famous piano bar?
In addition, the hotel offers various amenities such as a seasonal outdoor pool, a beach speakeasy driftwood bar, poolside bar, and two-bedroom suites (plus deluxe rooms and studios, too). All rooms are waterfront and have direct access to the quarter mile long private beach. The two-bedroom suites feature floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto a private porch with panoramic views of the Long Island Sound (oh, and a wood-fired cedar hot tub). The interiors are designed to reflect the coastal spirit, with textures like hand-braided rugs, light canvas upholstery, Carrera marble countertops, and wooden accents in teak and cedar.
The one-bedroom suites feature a separate bedroom, bathroom, and spacious living room with a kitchen and dining area. Families can enjoy their home away from home with extra space in our suites, pets love it too! Whichever room you book, you’ll be able to meditate to the calming sounds of the water, as the shoreline’s tranquility lulls you into a state of peace. The Long Island escape also donates $1 for every room night booked to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, a local non-profit educational extension of Cornell University. The cooperative was established in 1917 and the hotel staff coordinate experiences for guests upon request.
What else will you uncover during your stay? The hotel’s lobby lounge offers travelers a place to enjoy richly roasted La Colombe coffee while watching the sunrise. Guests can gather with other travelers in our common areas and appreciate the sound or share stories about their travels. In the evening, sip on cocktails in your room, at the beach speakeasy, restaurant deck or lounge all while watching the sun set over the Sound. The experience, every night, is truly incredible. The hotel’s seaside pool is also not to be missed. The pool is open from 10 am to 6 pm daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day. As for drinks and bites, the offerings are bountiful and beautiful. With two bars, a sit-down restaurant, The Halyard (note: make reservations), and a seasonal poolside food shack (Jack’s Shack), there’s always something to sip—or nosh—on. And, if you don’t feel like leaving your room, they have the best room service on the North Fork.
The hotel truly shines curating local excursions and offering various services such as a private sailing lesson, farm tours, curated wine-tasting programs with partner vineyards (Macari, Croteaux, Kontokosta, & McCall to name a few), yoga, meditation, nature walks, and bike rides (priority bikes are complimentary). The hotel’s old-world piano bar is the perfect place to grab a craft cocktail and catch a visiting musician or a local favorite.
Also, the hotel hosts a weekly performance series, including world-class music on the beach or at the pool, movies on the pool deck, and more. All summer long enjoy piano karaoke by the legendary Sid Gold’s Request Room every Wednesday night (not to be missed).
Consider this your coastal retreat. Your home away from home. Your escape to nature. Your one-of-kind North Fork experience.
